Postponement of the entry into force of European legislation on deforestation EUDR

The EU Council, based on a trilogue with the European Parliament and the European Commission, agreed to postpone the entry into force of the EUDR deforestation regulation by 12 months, i.e. from 1 January 2026.

The extra year will help Member States, companies and traders to prepare carefully for the implementation of this regulation. In mid-2025, the EU is expected to carry out a so-called benchmarking exercise, which will divide EU countries into three categories according to the risk of deforestation and, depending on which category a given EU country falls into, it will have obligations to meet the requirements of the EUDR.

The European Commission also published a manual on the EUDR at the end of 2024, available in all EU languages. You can download it here.
